We can also agree that when we find one, I use the 80/20 rule in that 80% of the ones we encounter are not very good. I really believe that finding the RIGHT person can be a difficult and trying process. Take the time because it is these people that will help you for many years to come. It is these people that you should be able to trust to help you make the right decisions.
Take the time to interview the person who wants to work for you. Make sure that it is a mutually beneficial relationship. Because if it is one-sided it will be a short-lived one. A great mortgage broker is one that takes the time to understand you. Throughout this process, you will be able to tell whether they have the knowledge and experience to understand your needs. Ask yourself, did they fully understand my unique situation? If they pass this test, a good mortgage broker will be able to provide you with the knowledge on what is involved in getting a mortgage. Too many people get a pre-approval and leave not understanding what it was that allowed them to get pre-approved.
A good mortgage broker is NOT a person who gets you the best rate. A good mortgage will get you a good rate but will do so in a way that leaves you confident that you will be well taken care of.
